Intersections of Faith and Health Pre-Conference Trainings
Intersections of Faith and Health: Mobilizing Faith-Based Assets, Public Health and Communities is a special ecumenical gathering bringing together congregation and community members with those in other health-serving capacities such as hospitals, clinics, public health, etc. for trainings, plenary sessions and workshops providing opportunities to meet people engaged in Kansas and Nebraska health ministry through many venues and using a range of effective models. The pre-conference trainings include "Health Ministry Team Training*" by Judy Johnston, Department of Preventive Medicine, KU School of Medicine-Wichita, "Congregational Health Ministry Basics" by Becky Tuttle, Community Development Director, Greater Wichita YMCA, and three parish nursing trainings - "Spirituality," "Mental Illness in Congregations," and "Introduction to Parish Nursing" by JoVeta Wescott, Kansas Parish Nurse Ministry, Wichita. *The Health Ministry Team Training fulfills certification training requirements for Healthy Congregations (healthfund.org/churches) team members. Consider staying for the October 19 conference, featuring a keynote by nationally-known thought leader in faith and health Rev. Dr. Gary Gunderson and a variety of workshops including "Roles that Put Wheels on the Movement: Witness from Memphis and North Carolina," "It Works for Us," "Advocacy for Health," "Good Neighboring as Good Medicine," "Hospitals and Faith Communities," "Ecumenical Coalitions," and "Faith and Health in Decidedly Rural Areas."
