The first “Connect Events,” designed to help the youth of the Great Plains Conference connect with others, with God and with nature in our camps, have been scheduled for August. Camp Fontanelle has had a similar event for two years and Camp Comeca had its first gathering last year, but this is the first time for this many camps.
The day will include worship, fellowship and fun camp activities. Opening and closing worship will be planned by the local district councils on youth ministries. All events begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. Registration is $20 per person and includes all activities, lunch and dinner.
The Connect Events scheduled are:
What does the schedule look like? What will youth be doing all day? The Connect Event will begin at 10 am and end at 5:30 pm. We expect everyone who attends to participate in worship at the beginning and the end of the day as well as lunch and dinner. The rest of the day is pretty flexible. Each participant can choose the activities they enjoy most. This gives you lots of time to connect with friends you went to camp with, youth from other churches, etc. Some activities are open all day and some activities that require staffing will only be open for an hour or two (you'll get a list when you check in at the event).
What if we want to stay overnight? Making the Connect Event into a mini-retreat is a great idea! Please contact the camp directly to arrange overnight lodging. You'll still need to register your group for the day at greatplainsyouth.org (see the button at top right).
Are other camps hosting similar events? Yes! Four of our camps are hosting Connect Events. Events will be held August 19 at Camp Comeca and Camp Fontanelle and August 26 at Camp Chippewa and Camp Horizon. If your group cannot attend nearest you please feel free to attend at any location you choose.
Online registration is closed, but you can still register at the door. If you have any questions please email Shane Hinderliter at email@example.com.
The Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM) is looking for student leaders who are willing to step up and serve their peers during the 2017-2018 term, which begins July 1, 2017 and continues through June 30, 2018. The mission of CCYM is to support the youth ministries of the local churches and the districts of the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church. Being a member of the CCYM is a servant-leadership role. It guarantees that you will work hard and serve others. Online applications are being taken now through March 25.
