"Little dresses" on way to Africa from Little River

4/13/2022

Over the last several years there have been some busy hands and generous hearts providing fabric and labor hours to create some “Little Dresses” (also known as “Pillowcase Dresses”) at Little River First UMC.

A project that was encouraged by a talk from Beth Goetzinger in a UMW program talk several years ago, took root and three ladies in the congregation started asking for donations of fabric and the donations started to roll in. Some of the ladies dipped into their own stash to help with the project.

The first shipment that was sent off around three years ago was around 50-60 dresses and now three years later and several more shipments the total number of dresses is around or maybe even over 300 dresses. The mission organization Little Dresses for Africa, also known as LFDA, is based in Rockford, Michigan. Their mission statement says, “Little Dresses for Africa works alongside the people of the village to address their specific needs through water, education and community.”

This past Sunday, Palm Sunday, the congregation blessed another batch of dresses that will be mailed off sometime this week. If you are interested in checking out this wonderful mission opportunity you can go to www.littledressesforafrica.com. What a blessing to see what the hands and feet of Christ can do when the community comes together to serve others.
