Business administrator needed at Trinity UMC Lincoln

Trinity UMC in LIncoln Nebraska is seeking a business administrator. The business administrator at Trinity United Methodist Church manages the business operations of the church and oversees policies and procedures to address receipts and deposits, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, cash management, accounting, contribution records, pension contributions, employee leave, insurance policies, and other miscellaneous expenditures. In addition, the business administrator oversees facilities management and contract vendors, supervises the maintenance technician and manages computer systems and software.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting
  • Manage the financial record keeping system of the church using the Shelby software system
  • Maintain current revenue and expense records of the church’s financial operations
  • Prepare monthly financial reports of the church and both child care centers for the church council
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports of both child care centers for the Trinity Child Care Executive Board Meeting
  • Prepare monthly endowment, investment and memorial reports for the endowment and memorials committee and the church council
  • Prepare special reports as directed by the pastor, church council or committees
  • Creates budget materials for committees, staff, and the pastor to prepare the budget for the upcoming year
  • Manage and prepare accounts payables
  • Maintain a sufficient cash flow to meet obligations
  • Manage all insurance policies, including workers’ compensation
  • Manage non-profit reporting for the church and childcare centers
  • Work with outside auditors and the finance committee with respect to the annual financial review and any recommendations from the auditor
  • Prepare annual end-of-year 1099’s and reports for the Great Plains Annual Conference
  • Prepare all other required financial reports
Payroll
  • Responsible for the confidentiality and accuracy of all payroll information
  • Process the monthly payroll for the church and both child care centers
  • Deposit payroll funds and ensure all payroll taxes are paid in a timely manner
  • File all monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll reports
  • Prepare W-2s
  • Prepare workers compensation annual audit
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws
Facility and Systems Management
  • Supervise the maintenance technician
  • Oversee the maintenance and update of church computers and equipment
  • Oversee routine software updates for computers
  • Manage the security system for Village Gardens and oversee risk management and safety issues for the church
  • Select and manage church vendors and contracts and competitively bid approved projects and purchases.
General Duties
  • Serve as an adviser to the finance committee on matters pertaining to long-range planning and best practices
  • All other duties as necessary for the administration of a business office
  
 

Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting, or equivalent experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong supervisory skills
  • Strong accounting and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in team environment
Specialized Knowledge
  • Knowledge of fair labor practices, wage and salary laws and salary administration
  • Knowledge of records management principles
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
Experience
  • Experience with and understanding of non-profit organizations and related regulations and reporting requirements
  • Experience with accounting principles
  • Experience in building management and maintenance preferred
  • Experience with Shelby or ACS software preferred
Other
  • Must pass a background check

 

Working Conditions

Internal office environment; routinely uses Microsoft Word and Excel, Shelby administrative computer system, and a variety of business machines
 

Physical Requirements

Some lifting, up to 25 lbs.

  • The Church Network annual conference (a national organization for business administrators)
  • Two-week courses through The Church Network for fellowship certification
  • Subscriptions to "The Church Network," "Church Tax and Law" and "Church Finance"
