Team Leader: Pastoral staff and Staff Parish Relations Committee
Responsibilities: Children’s Christian Education, Children’s Church on Sunday Mornings, children’s events throughout the year
Position Summary: Working with the pastor of family life and the education committee, this leadership staff position will provide vision, oversight, and direction to all aspects of children ministry, including infants through 5th grade. This individual will enthusiastically implement the vision of First UMC of Carbondale in developing committed disciples who love God, care for each other, and serve the world.
Leadership: Oversee volunteers and other personnel in the Children’s Ministry, alongside the pastor of family Life. Assist the pastor of family life in special events for children throughout the year. Establish a healthy role model of leadership, sharing the grace of Jesus
Recruitment: Recruit and train capable volunteers to assist with any children’s ministry events.
Programming: Create and administer programs that will help children, such as Children’s Church and other events. Develop connections with current and new young families with children. Develop Sunday School classes and a weekly event for children with the Pastor of Family Life. Organize and recruit leadership for Christmas events and Vacation Bible School, alongside the assistant pastor.
Administration: Develop and work with the education committee in addressing the needs of the children’s ministry. Keep weekly, monthly, and annual attendance records. Organize curriculum, supplies, and assignments. Plan and provide for the security of children and teachers involved in Children’s Ministry, assisting the Pastor of Family Life in maintaining safe sanctuary policies. Assist in budget development, implementation, and accountability. Communicate and publish activities to church membership via newsletter, bulletin, and the church calendar. Oversee the social media accounts of First UMC of Carbondale that are related to the Family Ministries. Embrace a team ministry approach in weekly staff meetings. Keep current with innovations in children’s ministry.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the children’s pastor is required to stand, sit, walk, and use stairs. This position involves lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds. This position also involves frequent interaction with children that would include physical activities.
