Director of youth ministries needed at Andover UMC


Andover (Kansas) UMC seeks director of youth ministries . The director will plan, facilitate, implement and lead a well rounded youth ministries program for Andover UMC and work as a member of the team with staff to accomplish the greater mission of the church.
  • Prior experience or evidence of successful leadership in youth programs
  • Strong commitment to United Methodist Church
  • Knowledge of materials, activities and resources commonly used in youth ministry programming
  • Lifestyle and behavior consistent with the United Methodist Book of Discipline
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Willing to be part of the staff team to develop leadership of laity
  • Ability to manage administrative and budgetary tasks related to position
  • Ability to complete tasks assigned and appropriately supervise tasks assigned to others
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, Christian ministries, and/or child growth and development; (experience in youth leadership also considered)
  • Lead Sunday School weekly for junior and senior high
  • Lead separate youth group for middle school and high school on Sunday evenings
  • Lead Wednesday evening combined youth groups
  • Attend weekly Lattes and Life chats at Scooter’s coffee shop
  • Lead confirmation education classes with senior pastor
  • Develop curriculum and discuss with volunteers weekly to implement it
  • Help students plan their faith journey yearly
  • Empower students to serve on a regular basis
  • Develop a vision for youth and grow that vision with all programs (current vision: Belong Believe Become)
  • Mentor and meet with student leadership team to discuss curriculum, programming and leadership development
  • Work with younger members interested in becoming leaders
  • Be a part of Christian education committee
  • Lead monthly special events (service or just fun events)
  • Lead group mission trips
  • Lead, vision and develop major fundraising events
  • Lead graduation Sunday event and purchase bibles for youth
  • Be present for all church special events
  • Keep detailed record of youth financial accounts and budget allowances provided by the congregation
  • Compose article for monthly Outreach publication
  • Update main bulletin board regularly
  • Report to congregation on a regular basis
  • Network within congregation to develop volunteer pool and for other church programs
  • Visit schools for lunch or events that students participate on occasion
  • Encourage guests be brought to youth events and follow up with guests
  • Delegate some of these tasks to volunteers adult and youth alike to increase your efficiency and decrease your workload
