Stilwell United Methodist Church is seeking a children’s ministry director who has a passion for fostering spiritual development and a lasting faith in Jesus Christ in our children. This is a part-time salaried position (average of 20 hrs/week) that reports to the pastor and is managed by the Staff Parish Committee. The annual salary starts at $16,000, with increases based on applicable experience.

PURPOSE
The children’s ministry director is responsible for actively engaging children (birth – 5th grade) in discovering Jesus Christ and facilitating a personal relationship with Him through faith-enriching ministry rooted in compassion, hospitality, education and worship. An integral part of our children’s ministry is to support the church’s mission as a Christ-centered community that nurtures hearts, minds, and souls.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

  • Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education certification and/or experience required
  • Associates Degree or higher preferred
  • Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Passion for nurturing spiritual growth in children
  • United Methodist background not required, but beneficial

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The children’s ministry director will be responsible for continued development, execution and appropriate expansion of children’s program activities, which include the following:
  • Plan and execute weekly Kids’ Connection events (Wednesday evenings), annual children’s mission project, annual vacation bible school, and periodic children’s outreach projects
  • Prepare and deliver children’s message as part of the weekly church service
  • Collaborate with music staff on children’s music programs throughout the year
  • Coordinate and supervise weekly Sunday morning educational classes
OTHER JOB EXPECTATIONS
  • Successful completion of Safe Gatherings certification (cost paid by SUMC)
  • Attend all major church/community events and staff meetings
  • Meet quarterly with the children’s council
  • Network with other churches’ children’s ministry staff
  • Provide opportunities for parents to learn and engage in their children’s spiritual development
  • Communicate regularly with parents and provide periodic program updates to congregation
