Today's Lectionary Text

Psalm 34:1-9

I will bless the Lord at all times;
    his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
    let the humble hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
    and let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me,
    and delivered me from all my fears.
Look to him, and be radiant;
    so your faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord,
    and was saved from every trouble.
The angel of the Lord encamps
    around those who fear him, and delivers them.
O taste and see that the Lord is good;
    happy are those who take refuge in him.
O fear the Lord, you his holy ones,
    for those who fear him have no want.

Today's Devotional

Psalms 34:1-8 for me stands as a clarion call for each of us to have an ongoing connection to the Lord. Each day we are going to face something.

It’s been said that from the time we awake until we lie down something is going to come against us. But though trouble may come against us as a
mighty storm we are called to be in step with the Lord.

To be in step means to bless the Lord at all times no matter what we are going through. For whatever valley we are going through or what mountain may stand before us we are to boast not of ourselves as to overcoming but to boast in the Lord.

As we call on him He has promised to answer. To answer on our behalf to deliver us from our fears. We are to exalt his name not just by our words but by our daily actions. For with each step of every day we look to Him knowing that he is with us.

We have that blessed assurance that no cry or request is unheard and that his very angel encamps around those who fear
him for He will deliver them. What joy there is to taste and see that the Lord is good, and happy are those who take refuge in him.

Prayer for Reflection

Heavenly Father plant within us the burning desire to stand on your word and know that as we travel the road of life we do so knowing
that it is you who is our source, our strength and refuge.
