Today's Lectionary Text

1 Corinthians 15:27

For the Scriptures say, “God has put all things under his authority.” (Of course, when it says “all things are under his authority,” that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.)

Today's Devotional

I recently was responsible to drive my grandson from home three hours away to a large, metro area for a soccer tournament. I am usually a fairly confident driver, but the highways and byways of this huge, complex system challenged not only my navigation skills but my self-confidence.

I managed to find two of the three athletic complexes during daylight hours but locating the final site was complicated by the evening darkness. Time after time I tried to maneuver the correct on ramps and exit ramps identified by Mr. GPS but finding the correct combination seemed impossible. Becoming more and more frustrated I finally remembered prayer and asked for guidance to get out of this maze.

I confessed to God that the tiny GPS screen, the numerous road signs, and these old, tired eyes just weren’t cutting it. Finally, having calmed down and with the assistance of my Grandson’s Map App I could see the lights of the soccer field off in the distance. We managed to arrive at precisely the required pregame time for warm-up drills.

Reflecting on this experience, I renewed my faith in God’s presence in my life and all its challenges.  I recognized the need to remember Him in all facets of my life. The scriptures for today proclaim “God to be the All in All.”  It also reminds me to take care of one another in Christ’s love.
