Today's Lectionary TextActs 3:11-16While he clung to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s Portico, utterly astonished. When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, “You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. ![]() Today's Devotional
How often in our own lives do we wonder if Jesus is there? I know as a young adult I struggled for years to find meaning. My mom passed away my freshman year of college and after she was gone the glue in our family disappeared. I tried to keep in contact with my dad and my five brothers, but I too was grieving the loss of a great woman. You see even though my mom was a PK (preachers’ kid) we only attended church on Christmas and Easter or when we stayed with our grandparents. That is just the way life was for me as a child. Then after dropping out of college at the end of my sophomore year I floated. There are many people that are the same way today.
I give praise and thanksgiving to a loving family, a wife that has reconnected me to my faith and over the last 9 years has walked with me as I have discerned my call into full time ministry. I know that full time ministry is not for everyone but we all are called to share the love of Christ in the world today. As I write this devotional I don’t know what the outcome of the special called General Conference is. But I do know one thing, we cannot let go of our faith, Peter says in verse 16, “And by faith in his name, his name itself made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you.” So, this scripture has been one of discernment for me over the last few weeks. We know where our faith resides. Let us continue to hold onto Christ’s love for all people and share with our family, our friends, our churches, and our communities. Grace and peace to all and may Christ’s love exude from you. -Rev. Jeff Goetzinger Little River/Mitchell Chapel Prayer for ReflectionLoving God, we know that Jesus came down for all people may we continue to live into that hope, peace, love, and joy that came with our savior and redeemer. Let us continue to reach beyond the walls of the church each day. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
