Today's Lectionary TextPsalm 148Praise the Lord! Praise him, sun and moon; Let them praise the name of the Lord, Praise the Lord from the earth, Mountains and all hills, Kings of the earth and all peoples, Let them praise the name of the Lord, Today's Devotional
Psalm 148 opens with these two verses, “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights! 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his host!”
Recently I have again experienced serious flooding around Mitchell Chapel UMC and have been interviewed by one of the local Wichita news stations. When this first happened in October I hoped that this would be a one and done thing even though members said it wasn’t anything new to them. Watching flood waters surround the church a second time in around 8 months was a little disconcerting. I was again stepping out in faith knowing that whatever happened God would be walking alongside us. While the waters did not get as close as the flood in October there was a larger area of flooding. This also gave me a deeper understanding as everyone said that each flood was different. I know that the church is not the building, the church is the people. In the commentary section of my Wesley Study Bible I am reminded how awesome God is with these words, “Praise for God’s creative acts” during flood or other life turmoil this is an awesome reminder that we worship an awesome God. Let us continue to praise God and share God’s redeeming love each other and with the strange. Praise the Lord…. -Pastor Jeff Goetzinger
