Today's Lectionary TextRomans 8:14-16All who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons and daughters. You didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but you received a Spirit that shows you are adopted as his children. With this Spirit, we cry, “Abba, Father.” The same Spirit agrees with our spirit, that we are God’s children. ![]() Today's DevotionalOnce upon a time, many years ago, I was a single mom. It was not the life I had planned and I didn’t take it lightly. At that crossroads, it took me several years of prayer and deliberation to choose that path. A couple of years later, I met Rod who married us (what the kids said). They wanted to use our last name at school. Then later they asked why he had not legally adopted them. He told them that he had waited for them to ask so they wouldn’t feel pressured … that it would be their choice. It has been good. Now there are grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hallelujah! Imagine how our heavenly Father rejoices each time someone chooses to become part of His family. By His grace we are adopted, but we must invite HIM to live in our hearts. We can look forward to some really great family reunions, since we are joint heirs with Jesus in the family of God. -Bonita Kitts Prayer for ReflectionDear Father God, We thank you for your plans in our life and we praise you for giving us more plans when we don’t get the first one right. I pray a special prayer now for those who are single parenting. May they acknowledge the need for you in their lives to guide and protect them and their children. Amen
