Today's Lectionary TextRomans 8:28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ![]() Today's Devotional
Today is the anniversary of September 11, 2001. It was a horrific day in our nation. Many remember this as a day they will remember all their lives. There are other tragedies that mark our national memories: the Oklahoma City bombing, the Space Shuttle disaster.
Most of us have days that mark our personal memories also. The death of a loved one; loss of a home; a significant illness. When we are going through these experiences, it’s hard to imagine how God can make anything good come of the situation. I don’t believe God causes bad things to happen to us to teach us lessons. Stuff happens. People we love get cancer; weather causes destruction; evil people do irreparable harm. I do believe God walks with us through these events and sends his people to be His hands and feet to a hurting world. As we look back on events, we can see how God uses his people to somehow make good out of what was intended to be bad. If you are struggling today, please know that you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses and God is working to make something good out of this. If you are not struggling, thank God and look around you to see who you can reach out to. Prayer for ReflectionGod of all healing, help us to see you in our pain and to recognize others in pain. Help us be part of the process to make all things work for good. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
