Today's Lectionary Text

Isaiah 12:2

Surely God is my salvation;
    I will trust, and will not be afraid,
for the Lord God is my strength and my might;
    he has become my salvation.

Today's Devotional

The following devotional is a reflection on the themes expressed and celebrated in the praise and worship song “Your Love Goes On” written by United Methodist Pastor Chris Aytes. You can listen to “Your Love Goes On” here

What fuels you? What drives you? What keeps you going? Who picks you up when you have fallen? Who is faithful, time and time again, day after day, to fill you with a love that “surpasses knowledge” and to guide you on your path?

When we can genuinely answer that God alone does all of these things, when God is truthfully and authentically the source we rely on above and before all others, we will find ourselves “filled with the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19). We are richly blessed to have the church and the scriptures and countless other blessings in our lives, but even they are not the resources we rely on but rather means through which we connect to THE source.

When we come to truly rely on God for our guidance, sustenance and provision, we come to rely on the only source there is that does not run dry. How long, how wide, how deep and how high is the love of Christ? How faithful is the love of a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever? God is love, therefore God’s love is as eternal, ever-lasting, and unchanging as he is. Hallelujah!

May we, by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, come to remove anything and everything else that we rely upon in life so that God may be our one-and-only source. May we come to confess what is written in Isaiah 12:2; "Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust him and not be afraid, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.” Amen.
