Today's Lectionary Text

Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Today's Devotional

It’s funny how easily I can forget God’s history of faithfully providing in my life. Time and time again he has come through when I and my resources have not been enough, yet as soon as a new trial pops up, I am too easily consumed by the anxiety it produces.

Until I turn my attention to giving God thanks and praise, that is, like Paul instructs us to in Philippians 4:4-7.

When I wrote the song “Yes, You Are,” I wrote it to be a song of praise for what God has done and a song of affirmation for what God is doing and will do. It praises him for his faithful provision, and it reminds myself that no matter what challenges I’m facing right now, God will see me through it. The lyrics are simply the words of Jesus from Matthew 6 re-phrased and set to a Three Dog Night/Creedence Clearwater Revival groove.

I didn’t write this song because I’ve perfected living it. I wrote it because I need it as a reminder. I need this song. All. The. Time.

I hope you’ll hit the link provided and listen to the song today. Turn it up nice and loud and sing along. If you’ll give yourself to praising God, his peace that surpasses understanding will melt your anxieties away. I believe it. I live it.

LORD, I wanna thank you. LORD, I wanna praise you.
You have given me all I need today.
Oh LORD, I give you my praise.
Whether I’m in good times or going through hard times,
You are faithful; your love always remains.
Oh LORD, your love never changes.

You are the one that I can rely upon, yes, you are.
You got what I need, you’re looking out for me, yes, you are.

The birds in the air, well, they’ve got no cares.
You make sure that they’ve got what they need and I
Can trust that you will provide.
The flowers of the field, well, they look so fine.
They don’t worry, and neither should I, I know.
I know that you will provide.

You are the one that I can rely upon, yes, you are.
You got what I need, you’re looking out for me, yes, you are.

So I am here to thank you, LORD, for the way you look out for me.
And when the worries of this world start to weigh on me,
I remember that you know all my needs.
