Today's Lectionary Text

Jeremiah 29:11

For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.

Today's Devotional

The phrase, I have most often heard students say as of late is…this sucks! It might have been said about how they miss being around their friends at school. It could have been said by one of the many ESU seniors who will not get to walk in a graduation ceremony. I know I have heard it said from student teachers and first year teachers who have ties to UMCM @ ESU. Let’s just all say it out loud right now…this sucks!

What do we has people of faith do when life sucks? For me it is in times when life is challenging that I find that I cling to the hope of my faith all the more. I see Christian hope as an orientation, a direction, a destination on the horizon. Christian hope is what pulls us forward toward through difficult times…you know those times when…life sucks!

We are living through a unique time of being a campus ministry faith community. We are faced with the challenge of how do we remain a faith community and grow our faith as a community during this time of social distancing. I pray that as we navigate this time we will continue to grow in our love of God, our love of Jesus Christ, and our love of our neighbor.

Prayer for Reflection

Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, guide us though these uncertain times with the gift of hope! Keep us focused on the tasks before us. Open our hearts to the world around us. Make us aware of the transformation that occurs in the season of Lent. Keep us sensitive to the nature of human suffering and the challenges before us as a faith community and as individuals. Give us hope for the days to come. Keep us safe. Transform our lives. Guide us toward your realm. All this we ask in joyful obedience and with the the confidence of Christian people of faith. Amen!
