Today's Lectionary TextPsalm 145:5On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.![]() Today's Devotional
This time of the year is my favorite of the seasons. I love fall and it’s calving time at my house!
We run (and by we, I mean my husband) around 35 Red Angus and Red Angus-Gelbvieh crossbred cows in a cow/calf operation. Fortunate this fall to find myself home working during the day this year, I was able to walk amongst our herd getting them used to being around me. I take my camera out with me most days checking the ladies, so I’ve had lots of opportunities to catch newborn and young calf shenanigans or pure sweetness with my trusty Canon. We are winding down with only a few heifers and cows left and I admit I’ll be a little disappointed when that last lady delivers. Checking them on foot got me outside and walking. It got the herd used to me and I hope it gave my husband some peace of mind that someone was here watching over them while he has been working long hours at work. I’ve also been able to walk the trees and see them change colors as the weather thinks about getting colder. I’ve had the time to watch a couple of calves born, monarch and other butterflies flitting through trees and pastures, deer running across meadows in the middle of the day and most recently a neighbor’s cat brought her litter of exploring kittens over to our shed to practice their hunting skills. These experiences have led me out of my house and into God’s works of nature. I’m so grateful to have this time to appreciate the wonders of creation. Prayer for ReflectionLord our God, you bless us with the richness of wonders that fill our senses. Remind us to use this time to be in communion with you.
