Today's Lectionary TextPsalm 19:1Heaven is declaring God’s glory; the sky is proclaiming his handiwork. ![]() Today's DevotionalBreaking bread together has been quite challenging during COVID. Jesus broke bread with his disciples on the night he was betrayed. Breaking bread with a community is something I’ve taken for granted. So many times I’ve been distracted by other things that I wasn’t focusing on what was happening in the moment. I rushed through Communion and other elements of worship just to get to the next thing. I wonder how many times in the past we've rushed through communion, prayer, or other elements of church service just to get to the next activity. Even with COVID restrictions, I’ve found myself filling voids with busywork. Right before Christmas I was at a local bookstore with my family. I was busy looking at books and talking with other adults. My 5-year-old tried getting my attention. I was so wrapped up in what I was doing, I didn’t hear him. He finally yelled and got my attention. He wanted me to look at the gorgeous sunset. I was crushed. I almost missed it because I was too busy moving from one thing to the next. I went out and took a picture of the sunset. It now serves as a reminder that I need to slow down and appreciate each moment as it comes. The picture also serves as a reminder that I may be in such a rush to get to the next activity that I miss a friend in need of someone to talk to, an important milestone, etc. This year, instead of giving up something for Lent, I’m going to try to be more conscious of being present in the moment. -Jennifer Brown Prayer for ReflectionDear God, In these trying times, we come seeking your guidance. help us to slow down and pay attention to the world around us. in Jesus’ name, Amen.
