Today's Lectionary Text

Ephesians 2:10

For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

Today's Devotional

Hello! My name is Jaylie Postlewait, I am a Junior Communication Major with concentrations of Organizational, Relational, and Leadership here at Emporia State University. My absolute favorite thing to do is go to coffee shops and read my Bible, do work, or just hang out with my friends. After college, I am not exactly sure what I am going to be doing but as long as I am working with people and doing good in the world, I’ll be happy.

Did you know that God created you in his image? He created you with your eye color, the shape of your nose, and your smile all in his image. God didn’t just create what you look like, He also created you for a purpose and for good works. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This means that you are destined to do good in the world. I know what you’re probably thinking… “but I can’t because _____” whatever you put in that blank God already knows. I know it’s hard to believe but God knows everything about you; He knows your strengths, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and everything in between. And He still chose you to go out into the world to share His good news, lead that small group, take a risk for something that you believe in. Since we were all chosen let’s be diligent in listening to God’s voice leading us in discovering that purpose and in encouraging others to recognize that God has a purpose for them as well - Christine Caine. I also want to mention that everyone has the same amount of time each day. During this lent season, I encourage you to evaluate how you are spending your days. Are you spending them scrolling on social media? Video games? Gossip? Today is the second day of Lent, and it’s not too late to give up something that isn't growing your relationship with God. Spend your days living for God. What I just said sounds hard, but it becomes easier if  you take small steps like:
  • Listening to a faith based podcast
  • Going on the Bible app and setting a notification to receive the verse of the day everyday
  • Watching a sermon on YouTube
  • Visiting the Bible Project website
  •  Being in an attitude of prayer when you wake up in the morning
You got this.

Prayer for Reflection

Hey God, thank you for today. I ask that you be with me each and everyday as I take on this life that you have given me. Please let me be open to everything that you have planned for me. I also ask that you help me be confident in my faith so that I can share with others and encourage them on their journey.

In Jesus name, Amen
