Today's Lectionary Text

Daniel 7:27

Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.’

Today's Devotional

Do you ever remember dreams? Are you a vivid dreamer or do they escape in reality? I hardly ever remember my dreams when I wake up and start my day, so to analyze a dream is far-fetching for me. Daniel was a dreamer with interpretations and strong visuals from God for kingdom-work.

The words “under heaven” are important. I think it is safe to say, God's everlasting kingdom shall not only be in heaven but is here on earth right now! It should not be surprising, unlike some random dreams that I actually do remember, that God’s kingdom is ever-present. Do you find the kingdom of God noticeable in reality or does it seem like a dream?

We also learn that the power and greatness are handed over to specific people. The verse promises rulership to the saints in God's government. Government is the overriding issue in the Bible and may seem that way still to this day. Who will rule in our lives? Hopefully simply put, God.

God created us to dream. His words, wisdom and wonders are miracles and can be closely connected to a dream. They are prevalent and relevant in dream and reality. We have all been given the power to extend the everlasting kingdom of God.

Prayer for Reflection

Lord, you appear in our lives in so many ways. Your Spirit is a force that appears as a guide personally drawing people together in mission with the Triune God. We are in awe of your directing unity and worship with God the Father and God the Son by revealing truth, prompting, and equipping for service. Amen.
