Today's Lectionary Text

Jeremiah 29: 11-13

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Today's Devotional

Most of the time we get so caught up in the world and we forget that God wants us to turn to him when we are struggling, when we are experiencing Joy and everything in between. We tend to want to follow our own plans we set up for ourselves and we do not want to change it. If our plans end up not going our way, we feel lost and hopeless.

Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a nurse and that has been my plan ever since but earlier this year I ended up not getting accepted into the nursing program. I did not take the news very well, I felt super lost and had no idea what I was going to do because I never took the time to look at backup options. I know there are many of us who have felt lost and hopeless when we have formed plans and they do not end up working out, and when we are going through a hardship. There are many times where we forget to turn to God and we try to deal with things on our own. There were many nights this year where I found myself breaking down in prayer, while turning to God for guidance and comfort. Then when the semester ended my adviser mentioned the respiratory program, I then applied and a couple weeks later I found out I got accepted! It is crazy how things can turn out and how fast they can change.

Through this experience I have learned that as much as we like to be in control, we are not really in control. Yes, we are able to make our own decisions but God already has plans for us. Even though as of right now my plan is the respiratory program, but that could change. I have been slowly learning that I need to start trusting God fully and not feel the need to always be in control. As the scripture says God has plans to prosper us and not to harm us. I encourage all of us to reflect on when our plans did not go as where we wanted, and what we learned from those experiences.

Prayer for Reflection

Loving God, help us to seek you when we are going through struggles, experiencing joy, and everything in between. Help us be able to give you all of our trust and guide us where you want take us. Amen
