Today's Lectionary Text

 2 Corinthians 5:16-17

From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: ev

Today's Devotional

I enjoy spring and summer. After the quiet and gray of winter I love to see shoots on trees, the grass springing up, then the blooms and the green, cold days turning warm, lots of sunshine, gardens starting to produce. It reaffirms that life is always renewing, that hope of brighter, better and warmer days can be fulfilled. It reaffirms that even that which appears dead can spring forth with new life. This is such a strength for me.

In this passage, I especially appreciate that this new life can happen anywhere to anyone, and it is transformative. Quite often I can pigeonhole people. “You fit in this category or that category.” Afterwards I tend to view them as being in that category. This Scripture reminds me that such an approach is not God’s approach.

Seeing with God’s eyes is seeing each person as the new creation God makes them each day. God is recreating me, opening my eyes wider, opening my heart more throughout my life. This constant recreation I see in myself coupled with encouragement from others and from the Scriptures helps me to see others more and more with God’s eyes. Just as I hope they see God’s continuing recreative work in my life, I want to look for and affirm the recreative work God is doing in their life. I so desire to be such a person more and more each day. What a life-affirming way of being!

Prayer for Reflection

God, more and more each day, help me to see others as you see them. Grant me love for them and words of encouragement for them. Help me to be a bearer of light and life and hope, sharing your love so others may be filled with new life, through the Giver of Life. Amen.
