Today's Lectionary Text
O Lord, our Sovereign,
You have set your glory above the heavens.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
Yet you have made them a little lower than God,
O Lord, our Sovereign,
I’m so excited for fall because fall is my favorite season. There is something about the cool air after the long summer heat.
In Nebraska, we’ve experienced a few of those cooler days (but there have been plenty of hot ones). On each of these days I’ve been intentional about going outside and actually enjoying the weather.
I’ll take the book I’m reading, or my notebook outside and just work from there. It is a good break from the constant staring at computer screens, or the bright fluorescent lights beaming down on me.
Our church’s gazebo has become my office. (Sometimes I get more done there) There is something about sitting as the cool breeze turns the pages in my book, as I hear the hum of bumblebees, or see the scurrying of wildlife.
Sitting in this makeshift garden, I’m reminded of the role I play in creation. The ways I can care for creation, but also the ways in which I can listen for the Holy Spirit to be at work in creation. I imagine the Psalmist had an outdoor office too, where they might write these words, witnessing the beauty of creation.
For myself, nature fuels my inspiration, and I recognize for others it might be in different spaces. Perhaps it is working with a team and bouncing off ideas, or maybe it is through music or art. But what is most important is we find the spaces to enjoy and spark our joy and inspiration, so we can proclaim boldly how wonderful the works of God are in the world.
So, I’m going to enjoy my makeshift outdoor office, and I invite you to find the space today where you will be centered and continue on the mission of loving God and neighbor.

Prayer for Reflection
God of all, in the many spaces we go, rejuvenate our spirits, and make us find the places where we can experience your Holy Spirit. Together we pray. Amen.
