Today's Lectionary Text

Malachi 3:1-4

See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears?

For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap; he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, until they present offerings to the Lord in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.

Today's Devotional

Prepare the way! There is one coming before me! Make way!
Who is coming, we wonder and wait? Who entourage is coming through here?
To what celebrity are we playing host? What athlete is heading our way?
We should get our phones out, ready to snap a picture to post.
Prepare the way!
Where is the velvet rope? Did I miss the start of the line?
I can’t see behind this guy, and I’m already on my tiptoes!
Do we need to buy a ticket? I can’t afford the front row.
Prepare the way!
I’m getting shoved around. Hey! You’re pushing me to the ground!
I’m on my hands and knees, and I’ve lost my phone.
I’ll never get that picture now!
I guess I’ll crawl out of here.
I’ve already missed my chance to see whoever it is.
Oh, hi there, ma’am.  That’s a sweet baby you have there.
What’s his name?  He’s so sweet! Can I sit with you for a while?
