Today's Lectionary Text
Matthew 6: 25-27“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?
My mother had a saying for everything and it seems I inherited that. I’m sure my children roll their eyes when they hear for the umpteenth time “Mom always said…”. One of my favorites is “Faith is not believing God can, it’s knowing God will”.
Read that again and ask yourself, do you believe God can or do you know God will? Sometimes I need reminding that God is not a genie in a bottle that we pray to and receive what we ask for. God never promises that. Instead, He promises to walk with us and carry us through whatever life throws at us. God WILL do, but it may not be the way we want it to be. Another of my favorite sayings is “If God is your co-pilot, you’re sitting in the wrong seat”.
What would happen in our lives if we stopped worrying about all the things we can’t control in any way and put our faith and trust in God?
What would happen in our churches, our communities, and our world?
God has a plan and we are privileged to be invited to participate in it. We are not the planners, nor are we responsible for the results. All we are asked to do is trust in God and do as He asks us to do-follow the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Reflection
God of all the universe, thank you for inviting us to be part of your grand plans. Help us to listen for your instructions rather than keep trying to do things our way. Help us trust in your way, knowing you have plans for our welfare. Amen.
