Today's Lectionary TextPsalm 126:2-3Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with joyful songs. Then the nations said, “The Lord has done spectacular things for them.” The Lord has done spectacular things for us. We are overjoyed!![]() Today's Devotional
My siblings and I have inherited several gifts from our parents: stubbornness, seasonal allergies, the ability to hold spoons on our noses, that weird webby thing between our toes, and last but not least if you haven’t guessed already … a sense of humor!
They gifted us the ability to find the humor in everyday life and mostly in ourselves. I always tell my kids “If you don’t laugh at yourself, someone else will!” and I certainly have driven that truth home. Like the time I possessed a work laptop for eight whole months before figuring out it was a touchscreen! Or the time I was drinking coffee with sleepy eyes early one morning, admiring the pretty horse running through our backyard. Until I woke up a few seconds later realizing it’s not normal for us to have a horse, pretty or otherwise, running through our yard and it had escaped our neighbor’s fence! Now are there times when laughter is not appropriate? Of course. Several times. Still, I find it hard to contain laughter when indeed the Lord has done spectacular things for me. For US! The pure joy is hard to suppress when I see how God has used me and how He is working in the lives of all those around me. All I gotta do is be willing to look for those blessings, joys, and opportunities for laughter. --Dixi Wellman
Waverly UMC Prayer for ReflectionDear Heavenly Father, We thank you for your GOOD NEWS of grace and salvation, the physical abilities to laugh, and your creations (yes me too!) that make us want to laugh. We ask that you fill our lives full of LOLs! Amen.
