This scholarship honors the late Nebraska State Senator Edward R. Danner who served in the Nebraska Unicameral during the U.S. Civil Rights era of the 1960's. Senator Danner introduced numerous bills that made discrimination on the basis of skin color illegal. In 1965, Danner's bill creating Nebraska's Fair Employment Act was passed. He also co-sponsored the fair housing practices bill which passed in 1969. It established the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission to investigate civil rights violations.
