Course:  Fresh Expressions: How Laity Lead in a Changing Culture

The course offering will aim to help define the roles for laity, which are pioneer, supporter or permission-giver, with a team launching a Fresh Expression. Laity will develop and identify gifts and graces that can meet the unchurched and begin a discipleship journey.

The course will help participants develop a deeper understanding of their Fresh Expression and role within a church movement. All laity and clergy are invited!

  • This is an Approved Advanced Lay Servant Class.
  • A Certificate of Completition for CEU’s will be provided for Clergy.

Location, Dates and Times: 3 hours online (one week before or after event) and 7 hours in-person on Saturday, December 7 at Hastings First United Methodist Church, 614 N. Hastings, Hastings, NE

    • Future of Christianity
    • Re-imagining Stories

  • Suggested Supporting Material: The “Fresh Expressions: A New Kind of Methodist church for People Not in Church” will cover:
    • Terminology relating to Methodism
    • Plans for group conversation and Bible study
    • Author: Kenneth H. Carter Jr. and Audrey Warren
  • Required Video: Overcoming Barriers -  Mitch will cover:
    • Training and the conference initiative
    • Introduction to course and lay movement

Class Design: Within the online Moodle classroom, articles for discussion will be provided for class dialogue and mutual learning. The articles will aid in defining roles, providing a Wesleyan historical context and the theology of play. The in-person training aims to be a time of spiritual call and discovery with others as we all learn experientially.
