Online seminar offered by GPARCS, the Great Plains Association of Retired Clergy and Spouses

Join GPARCS for two virtual sessions led by the Rev. Tom Albin, retired dean of Upper Room Ministries. Meet the speaker.

Holiness of Heart - 10 a.m. - noon
  • “Fix in us thy humble dwelling…” - Holiness was central to John and Charles Wesley – beginning with the Holy Club. What did they say, write, and mean by “holiness,” and “perfection?” How do we keep it from being viewed as a “work your way” to heaven program?
  • “Finish, then, thy new creation…” - How do we express our holiness? What increases or decreases our “holiness”? What is the relationship of Holiness to the more current movements of Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Practices? (small group discussion)
Holiness of Life - 2-4:15 p.m.
  • “Justice, Mercy and Truth” -  Social holiness is ‘holiness of heart’ made visible by loving neighbors and caring for the wellbeing of all. “Indeed … true Christianity cannot exist without both the inward experience and outward practice of justice, mercy and truth.” John Wesley, “On Living without God.”
  • “Take us, and make us holy” - If Holiness is love of God and neighbor, is holiness a “trait,” or an “action,” or a “creed” which requires disciplinary action? How do we support one another in our search for “holiness?” (small group discussion)
  • “Take Time to Be Holy” - A closing word on holiness; and prayers to sustain us for the journey.
Cost: $10 single, $15 couple
