Rev. Dr. Rex Bevins, 90; retired Great Plains Conference pastor and former executive director of ministries for Nebraska Conference. Born May 5, 1932; died April 7, 2023.
He married Ardis Dappen on June 21, 1953. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2012.
While attending Nebraska Wesleyan, Bevins served as a student pastor at Otoe St. Paul United Methodist Church. Following his graduation from Pacific School of Religion in 1959, he served San Francisco Hamilton Methodist Church, then San Carlos Carlmont UMC.
The family moved back in Lincoln in 1969, where Bevins served as Lincoln Warren UMC. From 1974-1980, he was executive director for ministries for the then-Nebraska Conference, and returned to preaching at Lincoln Saint Paul UMC, where he served from 1980 until his retirement in 2002.
Bevins was very involved in the national and international church, serving on the General Board of Global Ministries, the General Board of Discipleship, the World Methodist Council, Encounter with Christ in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Judicial Council of the UMC.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Sherry) Bevins, Mark Bevins (Anita Calvert) and daughter Deborah (Tom) Ehlers; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 14, Lincoln Saint Paul UMC, 1144 M St.
