Hughes Bentley Morris Jr., 91; retired Great Plains Conference clergy. Born November 8, 1931; died August 20, 2023.
He married Janet Gill on September 7, 1952; she died in May 2003. He married Margaret Elley on June 17, 2006.
A fourth-generation minister, he served churches in Iowa and Illinois before moving to Nebraska in 1964. He was the pastor at Nebraska Conference churches Palisade-Trenton, Shelton, Gering First, Beatrice Centenary and Aurora before his retirement in 1994. He was also the East District superintendent from 1976 to 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Elley; children, Stephen (TJ) Morris, John (Cheryl) Morris and Susan (Daniel) Matuella; stepchildren, Pam (Lonnie) Goodrich, Terri Deems, Cindy Molina and Cathy Goldman; 23 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and a brother.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30, at Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
Memorials may be given to Elkhorn Hills UMC or the Nebraska United Methodist Foundation.
