Rev. Dr. Jerold "Jerry" Wesley Vogt, 84; retired Great Plains Conference clergy. Born December 12, 1938; died May 19, 2023.
A graduate of Friends University, Candler School of Theology at Emory, and Phillips University, he was ordained as a deacon in 1961 and as an elder in 1964. He served the former Kansas West Conference as a pastor at churches in Furley, Lindsborg-Bridgeport, Garden City, Herington-Burdick, Wichita First, Wichita Asbury and back to Garden City before becoming Wichita District superintendent from 1992-1996. Following his time as a DS, he served as pastor in the former Kansas East Conference church at Leawood UMC. Following his retirement in 2005, he served as pastor of Wichita Christ Community UMC, and from 2005-2013 as pastor emeritus of Wichita Chapel Hill UMC.
He married Christine Willis. She preceded him n death on December 8, 2020.
Vogt is survived by his children, Sheldon Vogt (Paula), Clifton Vogt (Brianna) and Sharla K.P. Vogt; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life memorial service will take place at a later date. Memorials have been established with Schowalter Villa, Hesston; Chapel Hill UMC, Wichita; and Good Shepherd Hospice, Wichita.
