Leon H. Hayen, 95; retired Great Plains Conference clergy. Born July 6, 1927; died May 9, 2023.
He married Catherine Thomas on August 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2021.
Hayen graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa, and from Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois.
After serving churches in Illinois and Oklahoma, he came to Kansas, as pastor of El Dorado-Butler Zion in the former Kansas West Conference and Pittsburg-College Heights, Hiawatha Trinity-Reserve, Topeka First, and Topeka Susanna Wesley, as well as being the Ottawa District superintendent, from 1960 until his retirement in 1993.
He is survived by his children, Robert Hayen (Shelia), Marlene O’Neal (Dave), Scott Hayen (Kelley) and Janet Diemer; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Topeka First UMC, and graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Grant Township Cemetery east of Marion.
