The Rev. Lurena Faye Dunn


The Rev. Lurena Faye (Martinie) Dunn, 88, a clergy member of the Great Plains Conference, born March 15, 1933, died January 30, 2022. She married Paul Dunn on July 21, 1957, at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church in Parsons. Together they owned and operated the music store for 26 years. She graduated from the St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City as a Diaconal Minister in 1984. She served as minister of music/worship and Christian Education for Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons for 25 years. After the death of Paul on April 3, 1994, and her retirement, Lurena moved to the Showalter Villa  community in Hesston and taught violin lessons and became the Minister of Visitation at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton from 2008 to 2014. She supported her family by attending music and sporting events but was excited to be near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spend quality time with them.  Lurena was preceded in death by her husband, E. Paul Dunn, her brother       William Martinie, sister-in-law Betty Martinie, and her niece Terri Schulte.  Survivors include her son, Edward P. Dunn, Jr. (Diane), her daughter Debra (Craig) Spencer, six granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, her sister Alberta Schulte (Keith).  Funeral services were held, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons, with Revs. Paul Mitchell and Taud Boatman officiating.   Burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in  Parsons. The service will be live streamed on the Wesley church Facebook page.  Memorials are established with Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons and the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
