Marjorie Irene Houchin, 96, spouse of a Great Plains clergy member, born July 17, 1925; died February 13, 2022. She married Hugh Harlan Houchin on September 9, 1943. They moved to Nebraska in 1949. Hugh worked as a telephone lineman, then entered the ministry in 1953. They lived in numerous Nebraska communities before settling in Gothenburg in 1969. Hugh and Marj served the Gothenburg United Methodist Church from 1969-1979 and the Lexington and Topeka Evangelical Free Churches. After retirement, Hugh and Marg wintered in south Texas, serving an RV Park church in addition to planting a Mexican Colonia fellowship in Reynosa, Mexico. Survivors include children Linda (Melvin) Adams, Joyce (Bruce) Clark, and Todd (LuAnn) Houchin, 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hugh Harland Houchin, son, Hugh Houchin Jr, and sister Norma Jean Nies. Services were held at the Cornerstone Bible Church, Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Interment followed in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Gothenburg Public Schools Backpack Program or the Cornerstone Bible Church.
