Advent podcast series concludes with look at joy

12/14/2021

The “In Layman’s Terms” podcast begins a four-episode series for Advent using the story of Ebenezer Scrooge from the classic novel "A Christmas Carol" to teach about the redemption we all have available to us thanks to Jesus Christ.

In the series throughout December, host Todd Seifert, conference communications director, explores the first Advent themes of hope, peace, love and joy.

Episodes

  1. Hope (duration 26:08)— Ebenezer learns he has hope thanks to a visit from his deceased business partner Jacob Marley. Of course, our hope comes in the form of new life: the Christ child.
  2. Peace (duration 21:09) — The Ghost of Christmas Past helps Ebenezer start to realize that he once had a sense of peace — of mind, body and soul — until he let greed take over his life. Is there something you need to give up to fully enjoy the Advent season.
  3. Love (duration 21:29) — The Ghost of Christmas Present teaches our lead character three important aspects of love: Showing love by being part of a community, showing love by showing mercy to others, and showing love in true, genuine relationships with those closest to us.
  4. Joy (duration 19:46) — The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come helps Ebenezer rediscover joy and how that comes with a change of heart.
