Bishop David Wilson, the Great Plains cabinet, and the conference’s Committee on Native American Ministries (CONAM) took part in a Native American Cultural Immersion trip Aug. 20-25 in Oklahoma.
The group of 22 people from Kansas and Nebraska toured the First American Museum in Oklahoma City, the Washita massacre site near Cheyenne, Oklahoma, helped in a garden ministry near downtown Oklahoma City, and toured a museum and garden memorializing the site of the Tulsa race massacre in 1921.
After a week filled with heavy emotions, the group then concluded its trip with a night of celebration at the 147th Ponca Powwow at White Eagle, Oklahoma, where they witnessed young people perform dances handed down through generations.
