Two of the five camps in the Great Plains Conference are looking for new leadership.
Camp Fontanelle, near Nickerson, Nebraska, and Camp Lakeside, near Scott City, Kansas, are both looking for new directors.
Sara Shaw, camping ministry coordinator, said that all interested applicants must include a resume, cover letter and statement of faith and send it to her at sshaw@greatplainsumc.org. The deadline for applications for Camp Fontanelle is Jan. 31 and for Lakeside is Feb. 1.
“Both site councils have shared with me they’re looking for a more seasoned camp person this time around, preferably someone who has been a director of some sort of other management experience,” Shaw said.
Shaw said those who have already applied have experience in managing 4-H and YMCA camps.
“We really do have a nice range of applicants, but we can always take more because we want to make sure we find the right person who fits into the organization and absolutely loves camps,” she said. “We want them to be part of the family, not just an employee.”
The Rev. Bill Ritter, chair of Great Plains United Methodist Camps Inc., said the new directors must be adaptable.
“We’re looking for creative, dedicated Christian folks who are going to be flexible, particularly now during COVID-19, those who are able to think outside the box in new ways to do ministry, not only in our camps but in our churches,” Ritter said.
Trent Meyer, site director of Camp Fontanelle for the past 16 years, resigned last fall. Ross Janovec, site director for the past year at Lakeside, is entering seminary, Shaw said.
