Help your congregation launch new ministries at workshop

Whether you are launching a new church or a new ministry within your current mission field, the Great Plains Conference is offering a learning experience and retreat for your team.

Scheduled for May April 27-28 in Olathe, Kansas, the Great Plains Launch Pad wants to help you develop a plan for launching new ministries for reaching the people in your community. This opportunity will expound on plans you’ve already made and provide foundations for discerning, planning and executing your new ministry to reach people for Jesus Christ.

Join other teams from around Kansas and Nebraska in learning from our guest planting coach, the Rev. Dr. Iosmar Alvarez, a United Methodist pastor, planter and coach. Originally from Cuba, Alvarez has planted three Hispanic churches in Kentucky in the past 10 years. He earned a master’s of divinity degree from United Theological Seminary (Dayton, Ohio) and a master’s in Christian Leadership from Lindsey Wilson College. He earned a doctorate of ministry degree in 2017 from Asbury Theological Seminary. Alvarez is a prolific author on leadership development and church growth, and he is a certified coach for SLI and Path1, the national UMC recognized agencies for church planting, development and transformation. Alvarez serves as senior pastor for Fuente De Avivamiento/Spring of Revival with more than 400 members and 100 home churches.

Each team will leave with a plan in place and the tools they need to reach their communities. Churches interested in taking part are required to turn in a preliminary ministry action plan by April 18. A description of ministry action plans can be found in a recording of a recent webinar you can watch on the conference website. The link provides access to a plan template and plans for ministries in place in the Great Plains. Potential participants also are encouraged to learn more about their communities using Mission Insite.

Send the preliminary plans to the Rev. Nathan Stanton, director of congregational excellence, at, or to TruDee Little at Contact Stanton with any questions regarding the preliminary plans.

This experience will allow you to be on retreat with your team and your pastor to grow yourselves and your new church. The event will be conducted 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 27, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28, at Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 S. Ridgeview Road, in Olathe, Kansas.
