God calls us to welcome the stranger among us. Why? In the Old Testament, God reminds the Israelites several times that they once were foreigners in a what was a strange land to them, later the Promised Land. In the New Testament, Jesus tells us that we are to clothe the naked, feed the hungry and welcome others as a proxy for the Savior and in living with the commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves.
March 10, the Great Plains Conference and Justice for Our Neighbors-Nebraska hosted the first of what we anticipate to be several webinars involving the acceptance and care of refugees. This first webinar provided the basics for getting started by reviewing the stories of people who already had fled war-torn areas and settled in the relative safety of Nebraska. It then provided information on expectations of hosts and how to get involved.
Watch the webinar for yourself and consider how your church could play a role in saving a family left with nowhere else to turn.
