Inwardly focused, institutional churches are dying. Unfortunately, many of our denominations long-established congregations meet those criteria. But there is reason for hope because of very real adjustments we can make to become outwardly focused, missional churches.
The Rev. Roger Ross, director of congregational excellence in the Missouri Conference, provided workshops and led worship the weekend of April 14-15 at First United Methodist Church in Topeka. On April 15, he concluded his discussions on the topic with a 90-minute workshop explaining the importance of targeting our evangelism efforts within our mission fields and then in making the transition from an institutional church to a missional church.
